1998 E300 Turbodiesel Dead Spot in Acceleration
Hello again! I am having a slight issue with my 1998 E300 Turbodiesel (93K miles) when driving up slight inclines or after prolonged periods of highway driving. The car seems to lose power for an instant as if there is a dead spot in acceleration. I have to press the pedal harder to regain speed but within a split second the car returns to its normal performance. I have mainly used this car driving back/forth to work (about 8 miles each way)--a shame, I know--so I am wondering whether there is a lot of buildup from the lack of "hard" driving or extended highway runs. Would a "diesel purge" help--and if so could somebody explain a procedure for the turbo OM606 engine? Thanks. Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!!

Fuel Filters?
P.S. Is it a good idea to change fuel filters after a diesel purge??

Might be air leaking in under higher fuel demand; any leaks or wet spots anywhere? Expecially check around the prefilter area and up under the SOV with a mirror.
Easier way to hook up for a purge is to cut an old prefilter fuel line in half and use it as a purge tool. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=113596

I do not believe there are any leaks...I had to replace some of the lines after the switch to ULSD...and I recently did the filters...but the problem has remained. I will take another look though.
