Sad news, I crashed it !
I'm pretty bummed out that I crashed my '82 240D w/ 240k mi on it. She ran great and started great in the winter. I really liked that car. It was in great condition, inside and out.
I was on a highway getting more speed to enter the freeway. Suddenly, the rear wheels slipped and drifted to the right. I was going pretty much straight but the car started to go sideways. Then it must have crossed the other lanes and suddenly went almost sideways into the concrete divider. So I must have hit the divider almost head on at 45-50 mph. I have a little whiplash, it checked out ok w/ the docs. It all happened so fast ...
So the insurance is going to look at it and I have a feeling they are going to screw me over. I paid 3200 for it a year and a half ago not including the drive back from CA to MN.
My questions: is there a way to discuss the value of it to the insurance ? Is there a way to determine value in the market for older cars like that ? Is there any thing that I can do to help them understand the car's value ? Has anyone had to deal with the insurance in a similar situation ? Tips ?
Questions part two: the rest of the car seems fine, (I'll try to get pics soon). So the engine might be ok, just crunched radiator, hood folded back, two front quarter panels crunched. Is there a way to buy it back and sell parts ? I hate to see it go to the junk yard when there's a potential to reuse those parts. But to take it off piece by piece and sell it seems like a lot of work also. Any ideas or comments ?
