Transmission whine

After the car is hot and I start it up and put it in D the tranny will make a wierd whine sound. The fluid and filter were changed a year ago and the fluid level is okay. It did this same thing about a year ago and then quit, now it has started again. What could it be? Heres a video of the sound. Thanks

Did you drain the torque converter?

yes. The reason I replaced the fluid and filter was because I had the same problem. The whine didn't go away after I did the fluid and filter. It was about a months or two down the road that it went away. Now it has come back again.

Mine did that before the rebuild. It is slowly engaging into gear. Has the B2 piston been replaced? Could be just badly worn clutch also.

It could be. Torque converters can whine, as can the tranny oil pumps, and planitary gears.

How is the fluid level? Did it do this before of after the fluid/filter change?

The level is fine, I have checked it a few times.

It did this prior to the fluid and filter change and it still continued to do it after. Then about a month or so down the road it went away, no it has come back.

I think your B2 piston is hanging up. That whine sound is the brake band gradually stopping the clutch. I would almost guarantee that if it is not the B2 piston hanging up it is a worn B2 band. Beings that it did it for awhile then quit and now has came back that sounds just like the b2 piston hanging up. If it hangs up enough it will break and then it usually doesn't engage at all and you have no forward gears.

It will make the whine sound if I go from P to D, R to D, not sure about N to D.

I have also noticed that if I go from R to D(it will whine) and then back to R and back to D it will not whine. It will only make the whine sound 1 time after it has been started then it will never do it again. I have to turn the car off and let it sit and then crank back up and put it in D to make the whine. It seems to do this in the colder months. Make sense??
