pipes that are marked yellow and blue is that the fuel feed and return respectively.

I really do appreciate the help. I want to get her on the road again!
When you get a chance you should get the proper clamps for the injector lines. That one on yours with the rubber should be on the inside fender clamping the two fuel lines not on the injector lines. The clamps prevent vibration which causes leaks in the fittings and lines. Note the clamps in the pic from Jimmy.

Here is a link to a Russian parts site.
The 2nd diagram shows the Diesel Fuel Tank and plumbing.
Item #32 is listed as a Return Line.
Item #20 is listed as a Feed Line.
Item #89 is the Plastic Primary filter- However, if you look at the cart of item numbers it has "Optional With:" so it is possible it never had one.

I think that is the same as my setup and the picture is misleading. The feed is closest to the fender (i think).

I added a primary filter and replaced the brittle plastic with new piece. I think I will get some better pipe as I don't know the quality of the one I used it was in my garage but it should be ok to test it.

Ahhh, now I see the primer.
Am I seeing air in the clear plastic line going from the lift pump to the secondary filter? If I am, that could be your issue. When you took the picture had you primed the system yet? Did you fill the new secondary filter with diesel or something?

Yes. I filled the new fuel filter full of diesel before I screwed it in.
When I took the picture I had tried to prime it yes. Maybe I need to prime it some more or do I need to bleed it somehow?

The FSM says the system is primed, when, while pumping the primer, you hear the bypass valve open in the top of the secondary filter assembly. It can take an ungodly amount of strokes to get these primed sometimes.

Well with the new filters, new clear fuel hoses and a good ol' prime. She fired straight up. I went out to test on a few hills and a great difference much, much better.

I am still getting the hang of when to use the Slope and Low gearing but the car drives great although not a great lover of hills she is now coping.

I need to get full insurance before taking her out on the Queen's highway though. I ought to drive for a longer period of time to properly test the engine and fuel system but today's tests are promising.

Next step will be sorting couple of bumps and the bonnet out. I am reluctant to paint the whole car straight away as I want to drive it for a while

A tremendous thank you to those who have helped.....are helping!!
