W123 Windshield Removal

Happy New Year!~

Does anyone have any direct experience w/W123 front windshield removal?

I have personally done the rear glass (new seal & glass). It was not very hard at all.

For the front, does the dash have to be removed to access the lower part of the gasket?

Many thanks,

Had some windshield guy do my front to replace the gasket, he took the windshield out very carefully, by taking the chrome strip out, then plastic putty knives, putting in the new seal with a rope inside the gasket as he placed the windshield back then the chrome trim back. Don't know if this is the right way, but it worked.

When I removed my Rear Window I used a set of Plastic tools that people use to remove the Door Panels. And, since I was doing this by myself I bought one of those double suction cup devices with a handle between the cups (from Harbor Freight) so that I could suck it onto the window and have a way to move it around some while part of the Window was going back into the rubber.
I also put an old thick blanket over the trunk in case the Window slipped as I did not want a broken Window or scratched Paint.
While the removal method is the samd from the looks of it the Rear Widow is easier to remove than the front one.

You do not need to remove the dash to remove/replace the windshield. Do yourself a favor and just cut the gasket out without touching the trim. If you did the rear window, the windshield is easier by comparison.

$177?

Was that $177 for the entire job (glass & install)?

I once worked for the aforementioned company & there were always issues with the fit on MBZ & BMW & Porsches.

Still a very viable option though.

I pulled a windshield out about 2 months ago. I didn't touch the dash. I cut down both sides of the trim. Then removed the trim. Don't try to pry or pull the trim out. You'll bend it all up and you'll never get it straight again. Once the trim is out you can cut through the rest of the rubber and pull the glass out.

$177 installed I provided the gasket. Work was done at my office parking deck. They cracked one corner the first time, came out a week later and redid it.

Try that when you buy your own glass and DIY.

When I have removed either front or rear window, I have used a razor blade knife and cut the rubber and pushed out the glass. I figure if it has been in there 8 or 10 yrs and I remove it, a new gasket is going to be used.

when I remove it and there is a rust issue, then I can address it.

The glass man removes/replaces it, he is not going to fix the problem let alone let you know if there is a rust issue.

The last time I removed the rear glass, I had a mobile guy come by to install it. I had the new gasket, the glass was all cleaned for him. All he had to do was install it.

It still cost me $150.00. he used no sealant, and I had water leaks.
I used some 3M Urathane glass sealant and no leaks going on the 3rd winter.

This guy is on my no call list. not pleased with his quality of work, sloppy in other areas also.

I would try DIY if I had some one to help me.

Where did you get the gasket? I think I'm going this route. Quoted $188 on Safelite site for the '94 e420.

pull out the "A" pillar covers so that you have better access. Also to emphasize, Please cut all the rubber away from the windshield before you remove it. It's easy just did it to my 123 wagon
