*Emergency* help, please...
200 miles from home started noticing fuel smell. Stopped and found that the small 2" piece of injector return line has 'blown' its plug. Any suggestions for a temporary fix that will hold til I'm home? Thanks...

see if you can trim it and put it over the injector return line, usually the ends like to deteriorate and blow.
FYI, that fuel line should be changed ever 3-4 years.. not once every 20 |

Just to clarify, this is the small line that goes from injector to injector - I think they are called "return lines"?

Not sure, Don, what you are referring to regarding "...and put it over the injector return line,..." I put a snug fitting screw into it but it still leaks around the threads...

If you need more hose, weed eater fuel line is reputed to work good if the dealers not handy.

That is exactly what I used on mine for a short drive. Just check to make sure the weight of the locking pliers doesn't snap the old line off at the injector or pull it off. If it wants to pull off, trim down the tip that connects to the injector a little so that there is a tighter fit, and less chance of the pliers pulling it off.
...Don't ask me how I discovered that old line + locking pliers + gravity = might only work for five minutes before pulling off at the injector.

Fatter longer screw with some kind of gunk on the threads or a piece of hose of the same diameter slid over the fitting, bent over and held in place with a small hose clamp or rubber band. You can even buy vacuum cap plugs that I bet would slide over the fitting. If it still leaks, buy a long piece of hose, put it on the fitting, feed it out of the engine compartment at the cowl, over the roof and into the fuel tank.

::update::
Well...we are home!
Thanks to ALL of you - many great suggestions - "keeping extra length of hose...", "vise grips.." in the tool kit, extra "clamp" and on and on! My father-in-law had this 'cute' little clamp that he didn't know he even had that worked just perfect...fact is, I'm going to keep it in the 'kit' just in case it is needed in the future. These lines were replaced about 2 or 2-1/2 years ago and now I notice another one is weeping pretty bad too. So I guess it's off to the dealer for another 'meter' of fuel return line. This time I may buy the short one instead of making my own plug - as I did last time! Now I need to figure out the most effective way to remove most of the fuel that 'sprayed' up on to the hood pad...

yea, those are the incorrect fuel line. Mercedes return line is not multicolored. It should be black and black only
