Doh!

So the right headlight went out on the 240 a couple days ago. I tried pressing on the connector under the hood, because I've had one come loose on me before. No luck, so I stopped by the local Kragen and picked up a Sylvania Silver Star for a replacement. Since yesterday was my birthday, I had a few incoming phone calls from family and friends after work, and afterward it was getting late, so I didn't install the new light until this evening. Pop it in-no luck. Tried the high beam and it worked. Then I remembered that Mercedes engineers like to wire lights in odd ways. I pulled out the book and found that indeed, the left low beam, left high beam, right low beam, and right high beam all go through seperate fuses. I pulled the cover off the fuse block and inspected the appropriate fuse. Not blown, but corroded. I replaced with a fresh one, and suddenly all was good.

Moral of the story-always check the fuses first.

Good point.

I did the same thing a few years ago, so I had a spare headlight waiting. About a month ago it acutally burned out, and I had one to put in. But I checked the fuse first.:D Live and learn.

It's pretty smart to separate the headlights into different fuse circuits. Who wants all the lights going out at once?

always helps to check the fuses first whenever you got electric problems
