That pump looks like a Speedaire. Most old Sears units used them. You should be able to get parts for the pump at any good compressor repair shop. They're usually a lot cheaper than Sears.

mine looks just like yours but with rattier paint and no sissy pulley guard.

The date code is listed as the "MFG NO." on the plate below the compressor. Mine is 8/ 64

Where exactly did you type in your model number, the "search" blank? I would like to know if I can still get parts for mine, but can't get any info on the sears site. My model number is 106.152441.

Edit: Found it: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?sid=PSHx20080129x00001

Looks like most of the parts for mine are discontinued.

That is NEW paint --- my "artful" skills at work. I even took off the pulley guard and painted the inside area. I do NOT like seeing rust. And there's a reason why "modern machinery" has guards. I want to keep all of my fingers.

I'm with ya brotha. I suffer from rust phobia also. I'll be building a gaurd for my compressor.

kinda off topic but not quite

Not to hijack,

I have a 60 gal horizontal tank w/o a compressor motor on it, and a 25gal craftsman compressor and tank (circa 99' +/- ) im thinking if i keep the compressor in the back shed (totally enclosed building) and run say a 1/2 or 3/4 line 60 feet or so up to the garage where i wrench on Rudolph into the 60gal tank (for a large air supply for air tools) would that work well or am i doing overkill?

It would give you more compressed air storage. Not sure what air tools you are running but check out the CFM, with compressor sizing its mostly about CFM's. I know that with my old compressor I cut start using a cut off tool with the little circular blades and it would start off nice, but the compressor couldn't keep up and after a while the blade would slow down. I think part of it also was that the tool was shot and leaking air by.

You could plumb it up and just try it out. You may find that you run out of air and the compressor basically runs constantly. Don't ask me how I know this. Sandblasting uses a ton of air.

Cleaned up the pump, including all 4 valves, reassembeld and the pump and Baldor motor are back on the tank. Still need to align, and install the guard. Need about 45 feet of 8/3 to go from the panel in the house out to the garage which is about $100 at Lowes. Still need to change the oil.

If your output of air is more than the input, then you will run out of air. And when you run out of air and are in the middle of something you can wait. Then duty cycle comes in and stuff gets hot like the motor and the head. I'm not trying to sound all doom and gloom, I beat on my last compressor, and had to wait sometimes. It will be interesting to see what this one does. Piece what you have together and try it out, but really the most important thing in sizing is CFM output of the compressor and what you CFM requirements are of the tools you will be using. Tank size just buys you a little time until you run low on air.
