Trans Fluid Change

I am going to be attempting a trans fluid change in my '83 300SD. Just wanted to see if there was any tricks that can help out, or is it basically straight forward, drain.....pull pan....change filter....assemble....refill.

thanks in advance

matt

Drain, drain TC, pull pan, clean and USE NO PAPER TOWELS, no lint, reassemble with new filter and gasket / no sealer. Fill with roughly 1/2 the fluid you took out, start, and continue to check/fill as needed. Works for me.

The torque convertor has a drain plug also. You will (probably) need to rotate the crankshaft to move the plug to the six o'clock position. Failing to drain the convertor will leave about 60% of the drainable fluid behind.

I have to change the fluid and filter on my '90 300D--pretty much the same operation? Also, the torque converter fills thru the trans? thanks
