wiring complications

I put a thread about this in the audio section, but didn't get a response. It's more about chassis wiring than stereo anyways, maybe somebody cruising here can help.

The acc wire from my chassis is always hot. It just started a few days ago. I have an aftermarket stereo in, but don't think it's related to that because I unsoldered the acc wire connected to the wiring harness and it's still hot.

None of my other accessories are on while the car is off, but this wire is just always hot.

Does anybody know the routing of this wire? Have a diagram? Does it come directly from the ignition?

There are three positive wires going into the stereo area. Hot all of the time, hot with the ignition switch, and hot when the lights are one. You can look up the wiring codes at Becker's site. Pick any of the radios in the 80's. AFAIK they are all the sime.

It sounds like you have a short between the accessory wire and the hot all of the time wire.

That's exactly the problem. I am trying to track down where that wire goes/originates.

Verify the short with a voltmeter using the Becker diagram. Then just start tracing the wire back. It is most likely either right at the radio or in the ignition switch.

I disconnected it from the head unit wiring harness, tried to trace it, but it get's lost in the abyss. I have also tried removing the wiring harness from the ignition switch, no help there either.

I have narrowed it down the the bulk of wires connected to the d-box under the dash, I have to get in there and play some more. It's turned intermittent, so it's getting more difficult.
