synthetic oil group buy? on FastLane?

What do folks think of organizing a synthetic oil recurring group buy or having Phil offer synthetic oil through FastLane? There must be enough aggregate demand to net everyone a better deal and mbshop some profit. Thoughts? Maybe Phil should be an Amsoil dealer!

And I have no doubt this will degrade into an oil thread

I'm in depending on which synthetic oils you have in mind other than Amsoil. Maybe Delvac 1 or Redline?

Why buy oil online when its readily available in local stores with no shipping charges or third/fourth party markup?

GM/Freightliner/Detroit/Cummins/Cat/Intertrashional/Volvo/Kenworth/Pete/Ford truck shops carry Delvac1, Wal-Mart carries Mobil1 Turbodiesel or you can call Mobil ( 1-800-662-4525 ) and ask them to find a local distributor that carries it.

better bet would be to hook up w/ someone(s?) local and get a 15, 35 or 55 gal drum.

It would have to be local, otherwise the shipping, even with discount, would probably still equal going to the store.

Too bad though, I want to try some good oil, and I keep getting shipping quotes of $17-30!! The selection at most of the stores around here isn't so great..

It sounds like a logistical nightmare for someone. I'm thinking that one person would have to be the "hub" and do all the ordering and shipping as I doubt any company would offer a quantity discount for a bunch of orders shipped to different locations.

This only would work for small groups in local areas who would be able to pick up directly from a local contact.

I just picked up Rotella full synthetic from Autozone for $20 a gal. I thought that was pretty good...

I'm not feeling the love

Availability of good stuff is declining where I am, which is surprising for a major metropolitan area. I usually have to hit Kragen, Autozone and Pep Boys to get 8 quarts of Mobil 1. I gave up and run Delo 400 from Costco now since I don't plan to keep this car another 100K miles. Autozone doesn't stock Mobil 1 ATF anymore (probably on gsxr's egging ) but they started carrying the truck and Diesel stuff. Now if they'd stock 8 quarts at a time... Same deal when looking for Dex VI for the 'burb. It's more available now but I wish I could get the same brand consistently.

I'm tired of it. If Phil can make money shipping me 2 gallons of synthetic for $65, preferably one FI approves of , I'm ahead.

I looked all over and was pretty sure it was full syn. but I'll check again. If not, I'll just use it in the truck, no loss...

I save over $25 per oil change using the "fake" synthetic....so its fine with me, and it runs great on the stuff. All 4 of our diesels use it and run great. In fact, I think my motor is quieter on the Rotella than it was when I ran it on Mobil 1!

I'm in the East Bay and find it at the Walmart in Martinez. Only reason I go there. Truthfully, I don't pay attention to the price. I think it may have been $22 or $25 a gal last time. I usually buy 6 at a time.

Kartek - Rotella does not meet spec for your E300.

OK, thanks. I saw it has a MB spec on it but it's probably for MB truck Diesels. Last time I went to the dealer for oil and they gave me Delvac non-syn...
