1995 mercedes diesel fuel leak
Hey everyone,
I am in the midst of trying to stop the slow but sure leak from my 1995 e300 diesel. It is leaking at the fuel filter housing and the problem seems to be the o-rings need replacing. I need the part number for the following o-rings that go on part numbers 83, 95, and 56 (they are the real skinny ones). Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks, Matt |

I don't know the part number, but my dealership has them for like $2. I didn't have to give a VIN or anything. I also got the whole plastic fuel lines for $7 each. For what it's worth....

MB didn't use to sell the orings separately with the exception of the SOV and prefilter orings. Maybe that has changed.
See post #2 for the sizes. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=177588&highlight=o-ring You need some of the 8 and also the 10mm ID orings for the fuel filter housing ends of lines 83, 95 and 119. You can get a kit of viton orings from fryerpower.com for the 606.962 which will include extras as it uses more than your 606.910 uses. MB orings are buna nitrile rubber; viton is more fuel resistant.

installlation of said o-rings
Thanks for both of the replies. I ordered the o-rings (viton) from fryerpower.com. As I am a stupid beginner, are the o-rings installed on the lines themselves (there are grooves here, but the o-rings are missing - I'm assuming they have been eaten away?) or do I need to take the filter housing apart and install them in there?
Thanks again. Matt |

O rings are installed in grooves on fittings. On the plastic fuel lines, each end has a plastic fitting which has a groove in it and the O ring fits in that groove. When you take off an old line which has been in there for a while, the O ring will be hardened, and it will have a flat surface instead of a round surface, just from having been compressed in the female part of the bit it's fitting in to.
The fuel prefilter has a groove for the O ring, and the bolt which holds the main fuel filter in has grooves for O rings. You basically never put an O ring in the female portion of a fitting, it normally goes on the male part. (I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but at least not for fuel lines.) Rgds, Chris W.
