Well, I tested the glow plugs --- they all seem fine from a resistance reading perspective.

I have her hooked up to a jug of fuel and with a LOT of cranking; she almost started. Time to charge the battery again.

Preliminary findings --- I think I just ran out of fuel as I drove into the garage last night.

Got closer ---- I even cracked up an injector line......sheesh. Time to charge the battery again. Have any other w126 owners run out of fuel? HOW much air does get in the system??

Yeah, yeah, yeah ---- but HOW does one run out of fuel in the garage? Did I run out JUST as I turned off the key? Priming a w126 is a PAIN. I'm not charging the battery for the 3rd time.

Anything else I should check? It cranks and cranks and cranks.....as just as the battery is about ready to die, she coughs. The oil pressure builds as I'm cranking....

Time to fix the fuel gauge, so it works ALL the time. Cluster grounding issue.

He's gone the full route on that. Removing the injectors is usually the last resort but it does offer the benefit of zero compression...........thereby allowing quite a bit more starter time without overheating the starter or killing the battery.

I might agree with this approach on the 603 because they are very difficult to get started after they lose their fuel.

Technically, you need a new set of heat shields when you put the injectors back it. He failed to mention that in the procedure.

Would removing ALL the injector lines at the engine be helpful? Or should I just remove ONE? I'm NOT into removing the injectors...........today.

Good thing, I bought a 1978 240D 4speed earlier this week, huh???

You don't need to "remove" them..........you just crack them at the injector to allow the pressure in the line to release. Sometimes.........depending on the IP.........it won't force air though the lines and into the injectors. But, if you get it full of fuel...........which will happen if the lines are cracked..........you're all set.

Do you want to get the air out of ONE...........or all SIX?

Do not remove or crack them at the IP.........that's worthless.

Good thing..........you always need a backup diesel............

YEAH!!! Coda runs for another day...........

Okay, drove straight to the filling station --- and put some fuel in it; then came home and hooked the fuel lines up; it started again ( YEAH, again ); then I drove right back up to the filling station and filled it up.

I've got a very busy day, so off to get cleaned up.

But later, I want to post a few pics and get some feedback on them.

Thanks, everyone for your moral support.......

and Coda thanks you, too.

If the backup Mercedes Diesel always starts, drive that and get rid of the other one.

Alternatively, get a backup like a Dodge Caravan so you're incented to keep your Mercedes Diesel reliable.
