there's is little use in procrastinating. Considering the severity of a vacuum pump failure, it needs to come off before you run the car again, for the sake of your engine.

The most logical solution is to remove it and assess the damages. If you have lost bearings, replace the entire pump.

New is expensive, but used are available. Try to get a look at the donor engine before you buy a used pump. Inspect it thoroughly for play and abnormal signs of wear / scoring.

rebuilding a VP is mostly only good for fixing leaks. After mechanical failures, they are best left untrusted.

I have a pump off my 85 300D. not sure of the milage on the pump, but was on the engine when we bought the car with 176000 mi.

I replaced the pump with a new one when I bought the new engine after the timing chain ordeal.

So this used pump has 155000 miles I put on it, and what ever was on it before I purchased the car.

So if any one wants it, you can have it for the shipping cost.

I was just hanging onto it, just because. or in case or what ever.

So what is the life of the average pump? 200,000? 300,000?

Are w123 and w126 vacuum pumps the same?

On a different note, has anyone had issues running EPCnet under Vista? UGH.
