Sorry fellas, won't be able to make this one. Have fun for me, eh!

rhodes2010 04-03-2009 02:12 PM

Okay. I am in. See you all in the morning.

Here is the Last combined(other forums) attendee list.
if there are any changes or others that want to attend, please sign up here.

There was interest in seeing the Collection in the 2 story building. Unfortunately, there are only two tours on Saturdays, one at 10:00 A.M. and the other at 1:30 P.M. Both are fully booked and they cannot accommodate us for that part of the museum. The Auto Museum is not a reserved basis and we will be able to tour the museum at our leisure.

What: GTG and New, Old, Classic, Antique, Diesel, Gasser, Drive to the Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley for Lunch up a scenic canyon and back down another scenic canyon to, it time permits, a local JY.

When: April 4, 2009, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Where: Nethercutt Auto Museum

Map: The Nethercutt Collection Map

We will do a Nethercutt Auto Museum tour at 10:00 A.M. Followed by the canyon drive to Leona Valley.
Lunch will be at Casa Gutierrez, Mexican and Seafood Restaurant in Leona Valley. The owner has graciously given us the banquet room up stairs, and he'll clear the parking lot for us if I call ahead so we can stage our cars in front and around the place. They aren't too busy on Sat afternoons. They have good steaks and Seafood there as well as some American food.

The Meet and greet will take place at the Nethercutt Auto Museum parking lot a short distance from I-5. We will do a tour at 10:00 A.M. then take the 5 to the 14 north to Sand Canyon Exit, left to Sierra Hwy, Right to Vasquez Canyon to Bouquet Canyon. Right 20-25 miles to Elizabeth Lake Rd. Left 2 1/2 miles to Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley.

We will do lunch, have the raffle drawing and do the door prizes and have the swap/sell/buy parts there. When finished we will continue on Elizabeth Lake Rd. to San Fransquito Canyon back to the Valencia area. This canyon comes out on Copper Hill Rd, Right to Newhall Ranch Rd., Right to I-5, Then if there is time we can go to a local JY. I would suggest full fuel tanks just to be safe.

Remember this GTG is for Colin Coon and Ol' Norm and please bring a container of either cleaned used Veggie oil or new or a small donation for Colin. The raffle proceeds will be given in the entirety to Colin to help him on his way home.

For those that don't know. Colin has converted Ol Norm, a 300TD to use WVO and is making a sort of One lap around America. The conversion and the trip is his senior project in high school. Colin wants to become an alternative fuels engineer.
He'll be our guest. If you Google Colin's Green Machine you can find his website and daily blog. As of yesterday he is in Dayton Ohio, having driven from Sarasota Fl. through Washington D.C. on his way here to CA. from CA he will be returning to Sarasota Fl.

I'm working on an email invitation flyer for folks to print out. I will have maps available on the day of the GTG and drive.

All Mb's are welcome.

Everyone welcome.

Even though it's my wedding anniversary tomorrow, my wife is letting my attend the GTG.

Looks like I'll have to take her out to an extra special (i.e. expensive) dinner tomorrow night. :P

Okay, Norm and I will be there tomorrow for sure. However, I do not feel comfortable driving Norm due to his random power losses. Would it be possible for me to bum a ride from someone for the drive?

Thanks guys, looking forward to this.

Chadahar 04-04-2009 08:06 AM

I'm sure you can get a ride. I have room in the Bluebird and can get you back to Valencia, or someone else is sure to be coming back through Valencia.

Chadahar 04-05-2009 12:04 AM

At one time this morning there were 23 Mercedes Benz cars in the parking lot and one at curbside out front(Lady worked for the museum). 4 of those cars were not a part of the GTG, but As you will see there was a parking lot surprise. 1956 190SL Roadster with a hard top driven by an elderly couple. I invited them to join us for the drive, but they declined. I could tell that the husband wanted to come along, but deferred to his wife. That would have been Awsome. Also met the Las Vegas Nevada Section MBCA past president.

Of the cars coming to the meet and greet there were 18, some of which went on to the tech session at the Classic Center. They missed a good drive and good food and fun.

We stopped in Valencia to rescue Colin as Norm was doing his power loss thing. Colin grabbed a ride with Derek on the way up the canyon. Diesel Dan and Derek showed us that diesels can fly...er..well at least pass a bunch of us in the passing lane. I never saw such fast diesels in my life.

A great time was had by all and we raised some money and Veggie oil for Colin and Norm to help defray expenses for the trip home. I understand that Norm will under go a Fuel tank cleaning on Monday. That should fix him up.

A side note we were ready to leave the restaurant and a couple of bikers on Japanese bikes rode by, turned around and came back and asked Colin. "You're the guy from Florida aren't you?" Seems they are MB enthusiast's and are following Colin and Norm on Colin's website and this forum. Made Colin's day!

Anyone else with pictures feel free to post them up.
I have mine sized and will upload tomorrow as I have been up since 4:00 A.M. this morning and I'm beat.

Not pictured here is Bradelee, he was picking up his daughter from work and they rejoined us later.
We ended up with 12 cars lined up in front of the restaurant at lunch.

It was a fun day.

Hey anyone get a photo of Ol'Norm and Colin. I thought I did, but I didn't.
post up your pictures.

Wow, I have skinny stick legs! Me and Hue were joking with Derek about how the Mercedes has a 9-Liter 4 cyl engine, but only produces 95hp! :O

It was nice seeing everybody again, and can't wait for the next GTG! Although I will probably show up to the next meet in a different model Mercedes. ^_^ Sorry I couldn't make it to the lunch gathering...had a fun day at 6 flags. :)

Maybe that has something to do with the girl pants. haha

A good time was had by all.

Some people can sure dish 'em out, but...;)

Non-tapered jeans does a good job of hiding chicken legs. Of course, I don't have that problem. :o

Well, I got the Coupe ready to go except not having the 2010 sticker in hand. It seems that if you take insurance off your car, they will suspend the license. I thought it would be no problem, as I would just go pay the fees and get the sticker on Friday. NOT!! They said after faxing proof of insurance and paying $14 to remove the suspension, it would still take up to 72 hours to clear. That meant that I could not drive the Coupe on Saturday. Oh well, I took the SD and it ran great. Again, (Lord willing) I will bring the Coupe next time.
