Did a front brake job today!!

Well I went to my local Texas O'reilly and bought all thr goodies to do a front brake job. I bought new Wagner rotors, pads, national bearings, and seals, beck arnley sensors. Also bought synthetic grease and pad paste. All total came to $211 out the door!!

O'reilly originally wanted $48 a rotor. I brought a description of an "okline provider" selling rotors for $38 each. O'reilly graciously matched that price!!

Brake job was VERY straight forward.

I followed the Mercedes repair manual to the "T" and everything turned out OK.

I don't know what the dealer charges for this, but if you have the tools and the time, this is not a bad price for a complete brake job.

The dealer charges about $350 in labor for a front brake job on the W123/W126.....so you saved quite a bit. Your total dealer bill would have probably been on the order of $650-700 if they supplied the parts too.

I just installed front calipers and pads from O'Reilly this past weekend, and they said they didn't carry the wear indicators.
Do you happen to have their part #?
Very cost effective job on your car. Now we need to get you to take pics of these things you do.....

I will look to see the part number of the wear indicator I bought there. I do know they were Beck Arnley brand.

The brakes are settling in well. I have driven about 20 miles now and they are working good!!!

$6.99 seems a bit high - they can be ordered online for $1-2 each.

Whereabouts in Houston are you? I'm here in the Heights. Just wondering - I see a lot of W123s inside the loop.

I wonder if they'll price match- because that seems like dealer prices.

Yes they will price match. They matched the online price of $38 for the rotors.

None of our local retailers will match the online pricing....so I pretty much always have to get the stuff online. Oh well. Even if they do match the price, you still pay a bunch of sales tax, so online is always cheaper regardless.

How did you set the torque on the front wheel bearing? I've been looking for a metric dial indicator for a while.

I used an SAE dial indicator with mag base. Converted metric to SAE. Think it was about .0001 inch.

I think my rear discs might be worn. I still have some pulsation in the brake pedal. There is NO WAY it is coming from the front brakes. Now I need to figure out how to replace rear rotors and do a brake job there. Hope it is as easy as the fronts were.
