What famous Boxer knocked out Joe Louis in 1935, was a paratrooper in WWII and lived to be a 102, and a millionaire, dying only recently in 2006..ps hint he drove a Mercedes

Max Shmelling
my hero. He was quite a charismatic fellow, had principles, was a real gentleman and he paid for Joe Louis's funeral...

here's another old guy--we remember him as a an aging frail senator from South Carolina, but at the age of 45 ( my age) he landed in Normandy by parachute on D day. When he took his army physical they said he was too old, but he ran a 6 minute mile in street shoes at 225 pounds..
who was this guy? Died two years ago at age 97.. was Senator until he was 95

I can think of another word to use instead of confederate.

I was just trying to answer the question without stirring up the residual feelings about the "War of Rebellion" (the north name) or "The War of Repression" (the south name).
