Can i chip my 210 turbodiesel this way???

Hi

I was in the nephews Seat Ibiza 90 bhp tdi the other day and he said watch this, he flicked a little switch on the dash and booted it The car went like stink.
So what had he done?????
He had put some sort of variable resistor on the fuel temperature sensor and can fool it into giving more fuel. He keeps the resistor in the glove box and had to turn it to get the optimum too much and she is smoky. So when he needs an extra boost for passing or whatever he just flicks the switch and whoooosh.

So how do i fit this £5 chip to my turbodiesel?????

Any ideas anyone?

Nope. Your computer is controlled by a fixed chip. It can't be flashed like newer vehicles.

My truck has a chip that has 3 fuel maps in it which can be selected with a rotary switch on the dash. This rig cost me about $250.

There's also a mod you can do called a "10k" mod that inserts a resistor in the fuel pressure control. This is a really cheap DIY mod that will net you about 50#-ft of torque. This is probably similar to your nephew's mod.

Unfortulately, these are also mods that are specific to engines that are completely electronic. I don't know of any research that's been done on the OM 606 that would duplicate this effect. There are chips that will give you about 210HP but again, they are pricier more involved.

Try going to www.speedtuningusa.com. Highly recommended and inexpensive power upgrade. At least several of us on this website have done this mod to our 99 E300TD's. I went with the higher power of the two choices available- went from 177 hp to 212 hp for only $299.00 USD. VERY noticeable increase in power. Talk to "Oliver"...If you don't have the time or inclination to ship the engine computer to him for upgrade, he might be able to put you in touch with someone in Europe or UK that does this over in your corner of the world.

Your buddy with the Seat probably has what's called the "evry mod" hooked up... it changes the output from the quantity adjuster feedback sensor, basically increasing injection quantity without the computer knowing about it. This works ok, except you get some smoke, and if you trick it too far the adjuster will hit its hard stop, the computer will see that, and the car will go into limp mode.

Because your 'benz is EDC you can probably do something similar, just get a pinout for the injection pump, find the feedback sensor for the quantity adjuster (does mercedes call it the rack adjuster?) and add a small resistor to ground.

A better idea, as noted above, would be to remove your engine computer and have the actual software maps changed.

That is brilliant! I never thought of that. The pump has 5 wires on it. I've measured the resistance on each combination of the 5 wires to see if there's anything obvious but I didn't find anything. Since I need the car to work, I've never been able to take time and take the IP apart to see how it's wired.

All I know is that it uses a PCM signal to position the rack. I really want the Bosch EDC yellow book but it's out of print now. I may have to suck it up and pay the $80 for the master Bosch manual.

It should be in the car's wiring diagram. Just look for the QA / rack position sensor.

Remember that doing the "evry mod" will increase your EGTs.

I wish I had the wiring diagram... As for EGT's, I have a manfold/turbo/induction upgrade on the way to take care of such things.
