Viton ORings Still Leak (99 E300)

Hi Everyone,

I changed out a leaking fuel oring line with viton ones. The fuel line still leaks but only when the motor is cold. Is viton softer than normal rubber? Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Thank you,

Which line?

Check that both clips holding it in palce are fully engaged. A dab of silicone grease might help.

Viton is a denser/harder compound than Buna Nitrile that is OEM.

Are you sure you used the right size as replacements? Where did you get the viton ones?

I know on the OM603 there is a torquing sequence where you loosen and snug it 3 times, is the OM606 turbo the same way?

Yes, I mic'd them to make sure they were the same size. They are clipped in. I make sure with my lighted mirror on a stick. I got the orings from fryerpower. They have been pulled out and put back in more than 3 time trying to get them to stop leaking.

That one should be 2.5 x 13mm, the smaller size in the kit.

Its tough to get in there and new orings do fit VERY snuggly, you might need to remove the line above and use a rag and channel locks to GENTLY snap the lower line into place. Be sure you hear a double click as it seats.

Silicone grease helps seal and is a good lubricant to assist you also.

If it continues to give you problems you could remove the SOV (two torx bolts) and pull lines 2, 3 and 5 out as a unit attached to the SOV. That allows you to work on those lines on the bench. Moving the windsheild washer bottle gives you enough room to do that. Spray the torx heads clean first so that your bit seats firmly.

I replaced all of my O-rings with viton from Jim two years ago and have no leaks whatsoever.

Shot off Valve has O ring that goes bad

I had a similar issue with a leak and always suspected the beginning of #3 in your diagram. It was actually the shut off valve O ring which leaks in the same area.
