Is this an 85' 300D Turbo?

Pretty sure they moved the air cleaner in 85 or am I wrong?

Only on the "California" models.....the Federal '85's had it on the engine as usual....I am 99% sure.....hence the extreme cost of the filter for california '85s.....its like $50 vs $15 for a normal one.

What they all said, and yes, that car looks like an '85... The spaghetti factory of vacuum lines gives it away.

What is up with all those needless vac lines on the '85s? Our 300D has two....one for the trans modulator.....and one for the shutoff.
Who needs vac pods in the dash or the locking system....those are all frills!

On a separate note, this is my 8,000th post!!

the incorporation of boost information is sent to the trans via vacuum and the amplifier = more vacuum lines.

And it may have an ARV on the turbo.

It is not an 85' turbo, they NEVER MADE AN 85 FOOT turbo.

It might however be an '85 turbo.

What is ARV? I'm having a brain flatulation at the moment.....
[air recirculation valve maybe?] What does that do?

Correct. It is somehow related to the operation of EGR. All I know is that if you have temporarily disconnected EGR (for testing purposes only) then you can also remove and plug the vacuum line from the ARV. Once the vacuum line is removed, the ARV no longer does anything and can be ignored.

As the ARV is built into the turbo casing, the only way to completely get rid of it is to get a different turbo. You can also remove the vacuum actuators for EGR and ARV and clean up your left inner fender a bit. This also removes a few sources of future vacuum leaks.

Kind of a relief valve that allows air from the outlet side of the compressor to recirculate to the inlet side of the compressor. It is vacuum-controlled by the ECU and only open at idle IIRC.
