Winter Blades
I've always had a problem with ice buildup at the ends of the wiper on the drivers side. Defroster doesn't quite reach this area.
Opted for 18" blades instead of the standard 20", much better. Negligible difference in vision area. |

I'm guessing a W126....but it seems unlikely because they have the heated wiper rest.... W123's have a 16" blade don't they? And the W124 has a 24" blade....so it can't be that.

There are new winter blades out by Bosch and Rainnex and Michelin that are one piece molded with no exposed steel strips and clips. The Bosch are named Icons, can't remember the name of the Rainnex. These won't ice up supposedly but they are $19 ea. When they go on sale I am buying a set.

Huh, I thought I read they had 16"...guess I am wrong. I've never replaced a W123 wiper yet.....so I have no idea.

I have 'winter blades' on mine. I don't remember the brand but they were actually cheaper than the regular blades. I have ran nothing else in the winter so I have nothing to compare it to but I have never once had an iced blade or even any kind of build up.
I bought them at my local Fleet Farm. They are pretty local to my multistate area but I'm sure any large farm supply store would have the same thing. They have what appears to be a plastic cover on the frame so nothing can get stuck inside.

The 211 cars come from the factory with those style blades I believe. I put one on my car and it's done well. On my previous cars I used to reach out the window, grab and snap the moving blade to remove ice but the single blade on the E300 moves too dang fast...

The 124 mono-wiper does not like Bosch Icons or Rain-X wipers. I bought both this winter, the Rain-X was not able to make the curvature of the windshield at all. I traded this for the Bosch Icon, which misses a little of the windshield (much better than the Rain-X though), but the bigger problem with the Icon is that the up/down motion of the wiper arm seems to be tearing the blade loose from the ends, I now have a scratched windshield (with only 1month or less use on the blade).
On the other 124 cars I have the standard Bosch blades which work great. One is from Mercedes-Benz, has the star and the Bosch logo on it, they usually last me around a year.

don't forget to use Rainx all year round - it makes ice easier to get off, even makes scraping the windows during warm up easier.
I have a bosch (non winter specific) on my 124 - but since it's been down most of the winter - I can't tell you if it's any good or not!
