how long does it take???- answered...

Found this somewhere.......

I have come up with a formula for figuring out how
long it takes for a beginner to fix a problem on a
car:

Step 1: The rough estimate: find out how long it takes
a mechanic in a shop. Multiply this by five.

Step two: Fine tuning your estimate for a more
realistic timeframe:
a. if you have young kids that will be around while
you're working, double the number from step 1
b. for every year of your age above or below 40, add
10 minutes time (the age handicap -below 40 and you
lack perspective, above 40 and you lack endurance)
c. if your car is older than 7 years old, assume that
there are problems hiding in dark corners and just
waiting to suck up some more of your time. Double your
number from above.
d. Add 2 hours for research.
e. Add 3 hours for driving around to every parts store
in town until you (maybe) find the part(s) you need.
Just for good measure, add another 20 min. for getting
online to order all the parts that the local place
doesn't carry on your quarter century old car.
F. If you have no garage, add 20 min in the summer and
1 hr in the winter (Also, add 10 min. more for every 5
degrees below 15 deg. F)
G. add another 20 minutes for hand washing and
bandaging up all your bloody knuckles
H. add another hour for driving back to the parts
store for a special tool that you realized you needed
only after the mail order parts came.
I. If you don't cuss, add 5 min. for cussing. If you
do cuss, add another 15 min. for cussing.

Using this formula, I have finally been able to tell
my wife exactly how long it's REALLY going to take me
to fix the car and it has also improved my estimates
on how many weeks the vehicle will be out of
commission.

I see a few small problems with this formula. For example, it does not take in to account things such as whether people have air tools, or whether they have a magnet on a stick.

LOL!

…you also missed the fact that if you have a GF instead of a wife it will significantly add more time to your calculation, or how about pets? –both, my GF and my doggie are attention whores

And what about the guys with a girlfriend and a wife?

Don't look at me like that! I'm not one of those guys, but I'm sure that they exist!

Don't worry, They could never afford to own or enjoy any of these cars...meaning no time, no money and especially no energy!!!

Or so I have read...

Interesting. I want to check this. Does anybody know what the book time for R&R of a transmission in a '71 250 is? I'm a little over halfway done and think I'll be coming in at around 14 hours total.

When the grand kids come over, that eats up time. Oldest is 3, have to keep an eye on her, my tools that walk off, or have to go look at a butter fly, lizzard, or have to go potty.

Everything takes me longer than I think, just took me 3 weeks to finally get the clutch put in the truck and back on the road.

I tell the wife, "yeah this won`t take long" three days later......
at least she knows where I am.

Now let`s see,2 U-Joints and the new Differential. How long is this job going to take?.

Charlie
