300D experts???
HI,
I bought a "plain vanilla" 300D (non-turbo) sedan yesterday, which has a broken clock & NO tachometer. Which one is the proper tach/clock combination for 1984? (i've seen two different parts numbers.) What parts (other than the tach, of course) do i need to install a tach/clock combination into the little diesel? thanks, texasnative46 Last edited by texasnative46; 02-01-2009 at 10:06 PM. Don't know the proper combo, but you can pull a tach, tach amp, and sender parts from a turbo car.

There is no tach in the euro (non-turbo) model. It doesn't matter which you get as long as you get the matching pickup for it. '85 models had their own version that hooked up to the EGR computer, and had a sensor on the trans bellhousing. The previous years all use the same one, connected to an amplifier on the fender, which then goes to a pickup on the front of the engine.

all depends, do you want to keep the car correct and fix the clock, or are you really concerned about having a tach. These cars aren't speed demons.

Yep, i bought a one-owner "Euro-spec",with about 200k on the clock, with manual sunroof/windows/etc.. (the 300D was "self-imported" by an Army officer in 1986.) fwiw, i saw a 300D in Germany, when i was stationed over there, that had a tach/clock combination that "looked" stock. (i have no idea whether MB offered that set-up as an "optional item" or whether someone else "accessorized" those cars. there are any number of "tuning shops" in Europe that do anything that you can afford.) the little diesel is no "speed demon" but it's nice. yours, tex Last edited by texasnative46; 02-01-2009 at 10:07 PM.
