W123 rear wiper not working

I dont have a question, I just wanted to post something about how I fixed my rear wiper on my w123 wagon. I tried a seach and couldnt find much. Hopefully this will help someone.

My wiper started out being a little floppy. I would say this is the sign to take action. It then stopped working alltogether. I took it apart and what had happened is the two screws that held the mechanism together had came loose. One was missing completely. I found a replacement in my screw pile and screwed it together and everything worked fine. The screw was a small, maybe 3 quarter inch screw by #10, but metric of course. I had to take the cover off the hatch but it was pretty easy.

Good job.

Pizzachef told me about this fix too. He used loctite on the screws so it shouldn't happen again.

I can't claim credit. Here's the thread that pointed me in the right direction as to why my wiper didn't work.

There used to be helpful pictures in that thread. I guess they're not hosted anymore, wherever they were.

The relay for the rear wiper of the S123 is installed upside down so there's also a likely chance it can loosen over time and fall off.

I circumvented mine. The existing one is clogged somewhere between the pump/reservoir and where the tube exits the ceiling by the speaker. I ran another tube from the pump out a hole to the cavity where the tail light goes, then up that rear pillar and out the pillar to the speaker area. Actually, I probably RAN the line in the reverse order, but that's the way the water travels now.

Of course, after I did all that, I found out the washer tube inside the top of the hatch door (leading right to the squirter) leaks a lot. So I'm still stuck.
