folding rear seats?

I am seriously considering returning to the fold. A local dealer has a 1996 e300d and a 1999 e300d (210k miles) for sale, that with a bit of a stretch I could actually afford. My current daily driver is a Saab 9000, which gets about 28 mpg and has plenty of storage space because it is a hatchback. However, I miss driving a diesel. Just curious, do any of the newer benz diesels (mid to upper 1990s) come with rear seats that fold down so you can access the trunk?

Nope. The fool tank is in the trunk behind the seat. No way to create a passthru. A folding rear seat is available on the 211 E-class, staring in 2003. Don't know how common it is.

Bummer. I have been kind of spoiled by having all that space with the hatchback. I have looked at a few 1987 300td's but for some reason they are very expensive still. May have to consider a passat tdi wagon or a golf tdi instead.

And I would be leery of the rust and the "a/c needs a service."

Yes, it has something to do with the fact that it was the last year that MB imported a diesel wagon.

Just in case you come across a thread that is titled 1999 E300 TD, it is not a wagon. Just some clown that drives a sedan and doesn't know it.
