I have 3 and a 1/2 quarts of old mobil one dexron III atf. But i can't find anymore, could i get away with using what i have and then just putting a bottle of something else in there, as long as its the same spec, and non synthetic, or do i need to find the same kind?

That's what I'd do.

I used valvoline MaxLife in mine... it's so cheap i'd just go buy new of all the same.

I would not mix fluids. Spending $100 on new bottles of Mobil 1 Synthetic is cheaper than a rebuilt transmision.
I just did mine and I used M1 Synthetic. I think it cost me $79.00 in fluid. With the gasket and filter kit it came to around $100

ggspeed, seems like we're doing the same maintenance these days.

Mine's getting the trans fluid done right now! I took it in though Apartment parking lot and warnings of messiness made me decide to sit this time out.

Have 8 quarts handy. Drain the pan and torque converter for about 6 quarts. Remove the filter and you could get another quart depending on how long you let the filterless valve body drain. Fill no more than 4 quarts then start the engine and run through the gears. Add a half cup at a time until the fluid level is about 1cm from the bottom of the low mark on the dipstick. Drive the car about 20 miles to get the fluid to operating temperature then add in half cup increments until the fluid is midway between the high and low marks on the dipstick. Run through the gears after you add fluid before you check the dipstick.

As Sam Malone said, that's one sportscaster's opinion.
