Help seating lower turbo drain grommet

I knew first and foremost that posting a new thread about replacing the turbo drain seals would be my last resort on this subject, seeing as how there are 50,000 threads on this job as is. However I have hit a complete dead end, after all morning on this ONE part of the job... The grommet which plugs into the top of the oil pan absolutely will not go: I've got half of it properly in flush with the oil pan, the other side, which faces where the air cleaner drain mates to the oil pan, will not go in for the life of me.

Has anyone else had the same difficulty? I've tried everything I can imagine, and after busting my knuckles this many times I'm ready to call it quits 'til tomorrow and take the bus to work tonight.. when my blood pressure lowers

And for story's sake, I bought the seals from a certain "Source" some time ago. After spending much of the afternoon yesterday wrestling the tubes out without brutalizing them, the new grommet tore once I put it on the tube. So if this ends up being a bunk thread, you can talk smack about ************** instead

Sorry I have to add it's hilarious it automatically blanks out a certain Source when written straight .. My day's slightly better already.

I had trouble with it... can you insert the boot before you insert the tube?

I've already gotten it all put in, less the 1/2 grommet. I figured it needed to be all put together before seating the grommet, to give the lower tube wiggle room so the upper tube mates.

I think when I did it I put the lower tube in first, then wiggled the upper tube into place. You can also try heating and oiling the grommet to get it to go in more easily.

That's a good idea, thanks. I'll try popping it back out hopefully without tearing it (all paranoid from previous "incident") .. As far as heating it up, I don't have anything other than my girlfriend's lighter to use haha

Yeah it doesn't want to come out.. Once it's in there, it's in there. I'm thinking of how difficult it was getting the last one out... Perhaps slathering the still-exposed half with oil as if it were the best damned barbeque sauce on the finest steak ever, will make it pop in? Food-related analogies when talking about cars... I must be hungry.

I know, I know, flames + oil = bad. Didn't think about that until after I typed and entered it.. Stupid underdeveloped frontal lobe .. A friend of much greater mechanical know-how just suggested using dish soap as lubricant to fit it in, and it wouldn't hurt anything. Thoughts?

How about this method? My drain tube is leaking as well, and I was going to do the job this coming week. If you try this, let me know how it goes:
