SLS Wagon help - HOSE

Did a quick search on the forum and in both parts sites here but can't find the hose that connects the SLS resevoir to the pump(?). I don't believe this is the high pressure line, just a regular braided rubber hose that runs from the bottom of the SLS resevoir, across the front of the engine (between block and radiator) to the pump(?).

Need to replace this hose as it is leaking. Looks to be about 1/2 inch diameter (ish, not sure about the inner diameter), 3ft long...

Anybody got a part number? Looks like I may need some rubber mounts, which look like o rings, where the hose passes through some metal brackets, etc. as well. The job looks pretty easy, even for me, just need some advice on what size hose to use and where to find replacement rubber mounts/orings, etc.

Any one do this job?

its a low pressure draw line, you can use fuel line or oil/ tranny cooler line (better) not sure if 3/8 or 5/16 fits.

grommets may be found at some parts houses in the misc rubber parts isle.

mobetta is correct. Use fuel line of the appropriate diameter...
I got grommets from the drawers in Lowes. I just cut them in one spot so I can slip them over the hose without undoing it and they have a groove that fits into those brackets. If the hose is undone, then cutting is un-necessary.

Update and another question

Measured the hose today, it's 15mm outside diameter and 10mm inside (actually measured 11mm but I think that's due to the cracked worn out nature of the end).

I can always tell if a mechanic has worked on a certain part of the vehicle because if so, the screws/bolts,etc are always in a reachable area. In this repair, the screw securing the hose to the bottom of the resevoir is at the bottom, and cannot be reached by a typical driver. Hose looks like the oldest one in the engine compartment...so I believe its probably original.

My plan is to remove the resevoir in order to get access to the screw. Will removing the hard line on top of the resevoir cause any issues? Doesn't appear to be a sealed system...but what do I know. I'll take my time and get things nice and clean down there while I'm at it.

none at all. The return line is just a dump to atmosphere, it goes through a filter under the cap in that reservoir and the res. is not a sealed unit. The worst that could happen is that line is a #$%^ to get back on if you push it too far away.

You will want to seriously flush that res. once you get it out and empty it. Be prepared with your favorite cleaners.

Thanks. Still trying to source the hose, best price so far is $75 which seems a little ridiculous...

Why not just use a piece of fuel hose (of a slightly smaller diameter if necessary)?

I used McMaster-Carr P/N 5394K22. It's held up fine for two years of daily driving.

Thanks, this I might use. I'm a little hesitant to use non oem parts, even hoses, as they've disappointed me in the past. Two years is a good period of time, though I'm replacing a hose that is likely 26 years old.

as long as you use an oil rated hose, OE / non-OE should not be a major concern on an item like this. (unpressurized, low stress, medium heat)

I agree and understand. My bias for OE stems from experience with fuel return lines that I've had to replace after only a few months. Could've been an isolated event. It's not a tough job, just tedious and something I'd like to do once a year or less...

I would have to agree with you on that one... unfortunately, I have still have 1.5 meters of mine remaining.. total garbage.

maybe if you can source a respected brand like continental (conti-tech) or gates and goodyear it may be a decent replacement option.

I dont see the need to go making this harder than it needs to be- tranny cooler line will hold up to the oil, temp and pressure just fine and be less than $20.

Finished this job today. Not too bad at all considering my ineptitude.

Actually called the dealership for the hose; $20something for a meter.

Only weird thing was that the metal band that holds the resevoir in place couldn't be tighted enough to keep it 100% snug. Maybe since everything was cleaned up there was slack...I added a washer which helped but I'd still like to get it tighter. Maybe a bigger/stronger spring would do the trick? I'm just glad its not leaking all over the place anymore.
