'98 E300 what are you guys using to read codes
I've got VAG-COM for the VW/Audi stuff I work on, but I don't think it'll work on this E300 Turbo Diesel.
What's everyone else using?

Some of us have a Scan-Gauge II which is a multi-function gauge, code reader, data logger and trip meter. It's extremely cool for what it does but it's fairly light weight for codes. It can read and clear but that's pretty much it as far as I can tell.
I've been considering Auto-Enginuity for PC. It's pretty well regarded in the industry and with the expansion packages, it can ferret out the more complex codes. They're supposed to come out with a Mercedes package in 2Q '09.

You won't get anything but engine codes from the OBD-II port under the dash (unlike on the VW). You need something to connect to the port under the hood for anything else. SDS certainly works, but you could by a couple of spare cars instead. I've also heard of a knock-off called Carsoft, but have no experience with that one either.

When the Auto Enginuity Mercedes package comes out, it's supposed to hook to the 38 pin connector.
Here's the list of supported vehicles. Mercedes is at the bottom of the list: http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-software.html
