Squeaky 240D question - HELP

So my 240D just started making a squeaking noise when i get on the gas. It stops around 20 MPH. It only squeaks if i am on the gas ... if i let off the gas it stops. Any ideas what it is?

That is what it sounds like, a belt. would the alternator belt stop squeaking if you left off the gas? I am assuming so....

Any other ideas?

The car was just in for its 5000 mile maintenance a week ago at the dealer. It was periodically happening before this ... i am assuming this is something they may have not noticed?

the 240 has a single alternator belt, and if it's not the CORRECT metric belt it will squeak easily.
try this, get it up to about 20mph, hit the fuel pedal (sooo easy to just say gas...) so it's squeaking, then turn the heat blower off... bet the noise stops. or turn off the headlights... electrical loads cause the belt to squeak easier... it could also be due to the solid fan of the water pump, causing a heavy load as you accelerate...

Thinking back i am pretty sure it only squeaks when the lights are on. I will do a test today and see if that is the case.

Is this something to be concerned about?

yeah, if it's squeaking, not only is the alternator not charging the battery, but your water pump is not turning either... get a new belt from an import parts store, the correct metric thickness belt, 10mm, NOT 3/8"... you'll be glad you did.
