My 300SD = straight pipe

After Paying $100, Forced to read about STRAIGHT PIPE DISCLAMER, and 3 HOURS of work (I HAVE TO WAIT FOR 3 @#!@^!% Hours IN THEIR STINKY LOBBY!), IT IS DONE... I ll post a video later, i am cold and tired for now, BUT THE IDLE TURBO SOUND IS INTOXICATING I CAN SIT IN THE COLD AND HEAR THAT IDLE WHISTLE mmm....

As for the sound:
Idle Bass sound NOT LOUD AT ALL. is noticeable
Not in gear rev, LOUD outside, A little rumble inside but not annoying
In gear in the cabin
500-1500 DRONE NOISE but not annoying not that loud
1800 & UP, Sounds just like a stock, (as if you have the resinator and muffler is installed)
Outside
500-1500 not so loud outside but not annoying to the neighbors...
1800-Up LOUD and but still not annoying to the neighbors...

As i said i ll post a video LATER now i have to zzzzz....

INTERISTING NOTE: i lost 1 psi in boost doing that straight pipe form 11.5 to 10.5 PSI
made diesel truck driver look twice
Made drivers behind MAD (BLACK SMOKE BUT NOT SO MUCH just enough to make them mad)
Scared a Cat reving it in netural

Then you removed the resonators and the muffler? How much of that lovely turbo wine do you get when you drive or is it just at idle? I have been contemplating this mod for some time as my 89 F350 7.3L has been stright piped since I got it and I love the sound of the turbo. Was a bit concerned about the in car noise for long trips in the car though. Thanks for the intel.

I have had one for almost a year...and its awesome.

The turbo sound is pretty sweet. I will try to make a video sometime soon of mine....at warm idle it really does sound like a truck.

Mine is a 2.5" pipe from the turbo to the rear....nothing else.

any thoughts on a straight exhaust system (full length pipe to the rear) on a non turbo application?

Too loud, the turbo muffles a lot of the sound and keeps the noise level acceptable.....a straight pipe on a non-turbo is going to sound like you're in the engine room of a 1900's ship!

The turbo spools faster and there's more low end torque with a straight pipe....thats the biggest difference I noted....as well as about 1mpg....

To me it sounds too loud, I kinda regret I did this. It was so quiet before my non diesel friends went "Wow!" Now the noise inside bothers me as I drive and i feel redneck, this is MB not a truck. Two reasons I did this:

- I loved my SEC sound with straight pipe, but it was way different car
- from reading posts here I thought the dual resonator is clogged witch huge chunks of soot, turned out it was clean and free flowing

Well, it's ok for now, maybe I'll just play with it and put Ferrari muffler when I find one cheap

i recently pulled my exhaust off, from the flange, on my 75 300D. it sounds like a war plane. I found a nice glass pack sitting in the middle of the road and will get around to installing it. surprisingly I have been pulled over twice since then but not for noise violations, one of the cops gave me a jump when i was having battery issues, when the benz fired its throaty growl the cop exclaimed "beautiful" lol its like they are expecting my diesel to be this loud! also the other night i was next to a fairly ricey honda at a light, there was a police officer across the intersection, when the light turned green I opened to WOT for just a second to gain some speed then let off, (this makes an extreme racket) the cop immediately turned his lights on a flipped a U turn, to pull over the honda next to me, while I crept away!!! hhaha

It would be cool to paint a very loud diesel benz as a German war plane!

I have a 2.5" Aeroturbine on my car: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1827

Seems to work well. It got rid of the straight pipe drone.
