Moon Roof Seal

This is a plea for the wisdom of the sages once again. I thank you guys who use this and impart your expertise to those posting. Thanks.

I bought a front seal for my moon roof on my '83 300D. Got it from ******** (sorry MS) and it fits fine, really nice actually. The only trouble is, the moon roof hatch now won't close fully. There is around a 1/2 to 3/4 inch gap and so I'm up a creek when it rains.

Looking for any help, direction, suggestions anyone might have for remedying this.

Oh, I also cut-away a very small piece at the center of the seal where it has to fit around what I think is a guide/latch. The seal comes formed with a section taken out, but they didn't remove one section from the middle layer and it's impossible to get it to go underneath (I tried a gift card which is thinner than that part of the seal and it - the card - wouldn't go)

Thanks for your help

I think you don't have the seal in all the way. It's a PITA to get in.
I used wire pulling lubricant to get mine in and alot of profanity. A picture would help determine your problem.

It took me a solid 2 hours and 3 whiskey and waters to get mine in. I used silicone grease and a plastic windshield installers tool.

return the ******** seal and get a good one from MS... O.E. is best.

ok, preaching done.

that seal is a serious pain in the arse! and even if it is installed all the way in, it's now so stiff that the air deflector usually hits it, so you have to adjust the guides... I don't remember exactly what I had to do, but it's possible I assure you. VERIFY you have the seal all the way seated, and then see what's hitting. 1/2" is a LOT of clearance. mine only missed by like 1/16" or so. take good pics and post them here.
