617 with a 60x VCV?
Is this the correct VCV for a normally aspirated VCV?
I wonder why MB went with the turbo version VCV then back to this style in the 60x engines. Sixto 87 300D |

Perhaps its all they had? That's an old motor, note the loop style glow plugs.

That's a M-type pump, similar to those found in OM60X engines

That's the final answer. That style VCV appears on all the M pumps. The typical style for the 617 is used on the MW pumps.
This happens to be a 617 with the M pump. |
