W124 300D AC/Heat Blower Problem

Hi All,

My blower doesnt seem to be working on either low, auto, or high. Car gets heat when it warms up, but barely comes out since the blower is not working. What can be the possible cause? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

The first thing to check is the "strip fuse" which is a separate metal fuse in a 1/2"x1-1/2" black plastic box on the driver's strut tower right by the fender edge.

Check your fuse 12 and auxillary fuse holder with the 30 amp fuse. If those are good then its the electronic blower control.

Check wiring and grounds too

Could also be the pushbutton unit (PBU) in the dash or even the blower motor but I agree, check the fuses first. In addition to the strip fuse (or fuse 12 if you have an older '87 w/o the upgrade), the PBU also needs fuse 7 to be good. Remember to do more than just look at the fuses – actually remove them, make sure they don't fall apart in your hands!

Have a search in the forum - there is good info about what voltage to see where on the 3 pronged connector behind the brake booster - red = 12V, Black = ground, Yellow = control signal 0-12V with key on and CCU on high/defrost.

w124 Blower Problem 300D

HI everyone,

The ac heat blower doesnt seem to work on high, auto or low. Checked all the fuses, they are good. The one in the little black box is good too. Can it be the actual blower, or maybe the unit where you press the buttons? is there a way to check if either of these are defective? thanks!

You can bench test the blower and that will isolate your problem to the switch or to the electronic control unit for the blower.

Having the same issue...

My 83 wagon is having the same issue. My mechanic recently cut the AC motor belt since it was making a loud screaching noise. He said it shouldn't have anything to do with the blower not working. But, I'm not convinced.

Can anyone tell me if it might be related?

Not related. Check the fuses first. Then disconnect the electrical plug at the blower (remove the passenger plastic kick panel to access) and try the blower directly on 12 Volts from the battery. That will tell you if it's the blower or something in the electronics. The blower motor brushes wear and over a couple hundred thousand miles will cease making contact with the commutator, so the motor won't run.
