OM602 Vacuum Pump Question
After reading the thread about vacuum pumps coming apart and destroying engines, I've decided to replace mine before it happens to me. I have the original pump from 1987, close to 200k miles. I've been shopping around for a replacement, and I see the Pierburg pump going for around $300 - $360. I've also seen another pump advertised that looks identical to the latest version Pierburg but without the Pierburg sticker on the cover. This one is selling at $160. Anybody know anything about these less expensive (and hopefully not cheaper!) pumps? Thanks!

To my knowledge, nobody makes the pump other than Pierburg.
But.........stranger things have happened. |

I've been seeing more and more Chinese knock-offs of things I never would have thought. My friend bought a brand new Chinese starter motor for his 15 year old Saab. I've seen Chinese ignition coils that fit an extremely limited range of cars (Two Vauhall and one Citroen). So I'm wondering if this pump isn't a Chinese knock-off. I've asked the seller for more info, I'm not sure what I'll find out.

Hella is just a ReBranded Pierburg
So for a Piston style Vacuum Pump for our cars it's either Pierburg...
OR A Chinese KnockOff. (AND drive in FEAR forever more)

OR
Mercedes Benz Hella W0133-1599116 Diesel Vacuum Pump (Hella - W0133-1599116) Pictures though, all show the same Pierburg. I don't know if it's branded or they may be a second source, which is very common.

From what I've heard whether you order Hella or Pierburg you get Pierburg. Same price on the store, right?

Yes, same price. A number of online merchants offer both Hella and Pierburg. All seem to be the same photo, and the same price. I wonder if Hella and Pierburg are part of the same corporation now.
