Question About Repair Of Break-In
Someone broke the rear passanger side quater panel window and used something to pop open the trunk. I don't keep much in the car so it looks like they took a bridge transponder. Didn't take anything from the trunk since there is nothing in there.
Trying to get a guess on the price of the window, I think they bent the trunk lid since it doesn't close and broke the lock. What would be a guess on this? If I had someone do the work, would be more then $500.00? Thanks, |

The link you posted is a dead end.
Try taking the the latch assembly off the trunk, and see if the lid will sit down where it is supposed to. If not, it could most likely be bent back into position. You will probably need to get a new latch. Also, check to make sure that the striker on the lid is not bent. The window should be cheap from a junkyard, although if you buy a new one from Safelite or some other auto glass company, they should install it for free. Best bet is to take the car to an independent (not a dealer!!) autobody shop and have them take a look at it. They can probably tweak the trunk lid into shape for a small fee, and get he glass installed as cheaply as you could. Try to go when the shop is not busy, then you stand a much better chance of having them take some time to look at it for you. To get a baseline on price, go to - www.car-part.com they are a huge database of used parts. I saw trunk lids for $150, and glass for $25 And, if you do need a new lid, you can search fpor one that might be the right color. The paint work to make one match WILL cost more than $500. |

that sucks.....
quarter glass is $9 at my local JY- I had the same thing happen to the wifes volvo 940 wagon last summer- except they stole her cd deck and cherry picked her cd collection. the glass was cheap, but it was probably the hardest piece on the car to replace. (remove door window glass, drill out rivets, remove door glass track, etc) I did it myself, but learned how in the junkyard. not familiar w/ the MBZ rear quarter glass as I have not needed to go there yet( and I carry glass coverage on the TD- you just cant find those windows around here.)

The lid is bent badly as I see it. If they fix the area where the trunk lights are is bent upwards along with the area where the latch is, bent downwards. Looks to me like someone used a crow bar to do it. Nothing is that the insurance might not pay for anything and junk it and pay me for it. I will fix the link. Thanks for letting me know. |
