Urgent help needed please
I have the car up in the air doing an ATF Service this was in the bottom of the tranny pan. Does anyone know where it goes. It's a 722,435 03 box from a 94 300D
Thanks Adrian |

Damn, that does not look like the kind of thing that just falls out when you open the filter pan. I don't know what that is, but interested to hear the answer.

It looks to me like a dogbone from a servo or something. Like when you replace a B2 piston or similar. Is the unit working OK? Maybe someone did an external repair and it fell in anf they never retreived it.

Thats the rod for the B3 piston. Is the trans shifting funny at all??? Its not something you can easily pop back in....

If that was the b3 rod wouldn't there be no reverse gear (or reverse all the time)?
It's most definitely one of the thrust pins from either side of one of the bx pistons and not a good sign.

oh yeah...If you remove the valve body you should be able to get at the b2 retainer cage (a piece of orange plastic) and various other bits. You should be able to see at the very least the b2/k2 assembly and spot out if anything is missing. you can also remove the b2 piston at the same time to see what's going on.
To do this you'll have to remove the valve body and intermediate plate along with the gasket. If this is beyond your DIY skills you might want to get it to a specialist. If you feel it is and you do not have the manuals, PM me, I have 2. 1 from the russian site (don't have link off hand) and another manual of other origins.

Hi
After a lot of searching till the wee hours I think that is the bit in the picture. I had to order it plus the valve and the other bits 10 15 20 25. Should this part of the tranny be accessible with the valve body removed, exposing the guts. Cheers And thanks again Bob Last edited by iamamanc; 01-06-2007 at 09:51 AM. |

No problem. Just trying to pay my dues to the forum which has helped me an innumerable amount of times.
Do you know why the pin fell out? AFAIK it should be accessible with the valve body and intermediate plate out. I suspect you'll also have to remove the b3 brake band guide along with the b2 piston to relax the pressure on the band. You may want to pull the valve body sooner rather than later to see what else is wrong in there. I would be interested to know what broke to cause the pin to drop. It will not just fall out on it's own. The guide piece is plastic though not necessarily prone to breaking. Did you say the transmission was overfilled at some point? You may want to try and get mbtechman, Johnhef, or M.B.Doc in the loop since they are certified (or have done this lots of times) as I am not. Good luck!

Hi Bob
As I am away next week my pal will have the pleasure of sorting this one out although I would love to have a look myself. We have left the sump empty as we don't get the parts till Tuesday. So any pointers I get I will print them off and pop them in his mailbox. Anyway I suspect that someone was in there before. To start with there was a bolt/screw missing from the ATF sump pan. What really flags this one up is, in the spec, for the part of the b2 gizzmo in question, the small retaining nut (no.25) should under no circumstances be used twice. Judging by other things that I have found on the car, I bet it was!! It was overfilled by about 2" on the dip stick which even I know is a hell of a lot. It did seem strange that the pin is very discoloured not at all consistant with the rest of the tranny, which suggests it has been in the pan for quite a while. What really baffles me though is how can it run so well without this pin, as I have said it only flares now and again ie. changing up on high revs. On a long gradual ascent with constant gas at approx one third it's fine. It will change down and up again when needed without any prompting. Here's hoping Thanks Adrian |
