IP Oil Leak 606 W210

1 Attachment(s)
I have a 97 E300D with engine oil leaking from my injector pump. In the picture its coming out of the panel 152, on the side. The bottom seems okay.
I bought the new neoprene seal from MB for $20. It looks like the shut off valve would have to come off as well as the clearance seems a bit doubtful.
I then noticed, that the upper left bolt is missing. So, I am going to try to just install the bolt and see if the leak goes away. Is it common for these to leak oil? Is there a torq setting for the 6 screws? Does anyone have a drawing the shows the pitch/size/lenght?

I've never heard of anyone having a leak on a pump that hasn't been touched but the fact that you are missing a bolt is a pretty good lead on the required fix. You can probably remove another one and match it up with something from Home Depot or Lowes since they tend to use standard metric hardware on these things. Or maybe someone on the board has a junked pump they can pull one from an measure it for you?

Hi Bill,

My pump was leaking from that cover and I'm pretty sure no one ever removed it. I think the gasket just hardened up over time. The leak had bathed the side of the engine with oil and was causing quite a mess on the floor of the garage.

As a temporary measure, I cleaned it and applied a little silicone until I ordered a new gasket and I'll install it next time I have the manifold off. I did have to remove the SOV to remove the cover but i was in the process of changing all the o-rings over to Viton so I had the valve off anyway.

By the way, you're pump looks like this:

The pump in your picture is from a '95 and earlier OM606/603. The gasket looks the same though and appears to have the same part number.

I have an OM603 pump like the one in the picture sitting here and I can measure the screw for you later today.

Cool , Thanks. Where do you get the viton o-rings? Did you just change them on the plastic lines, or the on the shut off and everywhere else? About 2 years ago, I took a trip from Phoenix to LA and I filled the tank with B100 in Phoenix. The car ran as smooth as silk. In LA at my dads house 2 days later she was a leaky mess. No tools or time on hand, I had a HB indie shop changed all the lines and shut off. Back in AZ it still smelled bad. I then found all of my return lines filled to the rim in the injector holes. I replaced all my return lines. My B100 days are over after that ordeal. I guess if I had viton, I might give it another shot.

fryerpower.com has a 606.962 oring kit. All viton. Or search my name and 606.962 orings for the sizes and counts if you want to buy your own in 10 pcks from McMaster-Carr.

The orings usually deterioate because of the "change" in fuel when they get older. There are differences in aromatic chemicals used in each fuel that hasten that effect. LSD to ULSD or to Bio, etc.
