quick non biased oil question

seriously.. I just need to know if the Mobile 5w40 synthetic can be used in my 603.. it says its a stand in for regular 15w40... I want to stay synthetic but not with amsoil.. Amsoil just makes me thing "rednecks, stupid trucks, seriously overpriced, going out of my way to buy it".. I'm a Mobile user and I stick with what the sticker under the hood tells me to use. the autozoo has the synthetic mobile on the shelf and by the case so its easy to get

YES

That is what I use. There are several other members that use it in their 603's as well. GSXR is one that comes to mind. My OA after 10,000 miles says the oil is still OK.

I'm pretty sure that's the oil already in there.....its what he was using in it.

Personally I've gone anti-mobil oils (too expensive).....but I don't want to start an oil war or anything here.

I don't see an OM603 in your sig line, so perhaps the folks that have one would be a better source for the information he seeks.

A diesel is a diesel.....I suppose the only advantage with the Mobil is that its a "true synthetic" and since it can be run longer in a 603.....is equally cost effective to a cheaper synthetic in a 617.....the soot monsters. I'd go broke doing M1 changes on my 617.

If you really wish to see the benefits of running synthetic oil you need to run a bypass filter setup especially in a 617.

TheDon,
Haven't you learned yet? There is no such thing as a 'quick' oil question on this forum.

Don, that's one of the best diesel oils available. You certainly don't need to 2nd guess that choice.

FWIW, Advance Auto Pars has a special going right now: 5qts of Mobil 1 oil plus a Mobil 1 oil filter for $30. (If they don't have a filter for your car, gte a filter for one of your other cars.)

I'll check that out tomorrow... IIRC the 603 takes like 7-8 quarts. Plus.... the two Chevrolet go to the dealership for oil changes since they are pretty much close to free(its good to know people or when you buy two new cars form them within 6 months of each other and then refer the same sales guy to all your friends)

haha it never ceases to amaze me. but to answer your question. I have always used Mobil Delvac 1, which is synthetic diesel engine oil. I have used Amsoil in our snowmobiles for the two cycle oil and man is it good stuff, and a lot cheaper that the redline products I used to use. All in All, I really don't think one is better than another. To me, it is just a matter of personal preference and what you want to spend.

Again, Just my $0.02,

I like Amsoil as a product but I can't stand their marketing plan. For a short while a local Car Quest was carrying it $18 per gallon for 15W-40.

In my SDL I use M1 5W40 all year. I am paranoid with oil and change it every 4000 miles with a filter change every 2000. I got into that habit with the 300 SD.

Doing 160 miles a day got me into the habit of frequent and hot oil changes
