What exactly is Nailing sound like?

Is this a sound that you get when you start your car cold that goes away? or does it continue even after car warms up?

Mine is noisier when I start it cold but it goes away when it warms up. If I start it and let it idle I'd say it goes away in 10 minutes at idle speed.

Once it is warmed up I'd say that is half as noisey. I thought this was normal.

Mine would go away when warm. I replaced the injectors and it went away for good.

Have some people experienced nailing not at idle? when under a about 1/3 accel, my 85 makes some nailing sounds, somewhat randomly, until it warms up...but not at idle at all.

Or is that something else altogether?

So if I have a different "Rocky Sound" that is different and louder spound at idle with a cold engine, this is what is called Nailing? Is it harmful? It is very quiet once warmed up.

Does the Lubro Moly Diesel Purge clear up this sound? I did put some sort of additive in prior to storage but it wasn't the stuff called Diesel Purge, the Lubro Moly Stuff. The stuff I used absorbed moisture and all that cool stuff.

Will this Lubro Moly Diesel Purge reduce start up "Nailing" or to elimate this start up sound I need new injectors?

Thanks

Mine only makes this Nailing Sound for a few minutes after I have started a cold engine. I have never heard it during driving once the engine has warmed up.

I was thinking this was a normal sound for a diesel that was cold but now I'm starting to wonder. I'm new to the car and the PO told me he put in trannie fluid once in awhile in the fuel tank, so I'm wondering if this was a bad thing to do. I read pros and cons.

I'm going to get some Lubro Moly Diesel Purge and see if this helps this start up sound.

LNG,

the purge is a good place to start. make sure to follow the dieselgiant.com tutorial - dont just dump it in the tank.

The purge will probably help but not eliminate it. New injectors will eliminate it though. I need new ones myself

Nailing sounds like someone driving a spike into an oak board. Hence 'nailing'.

Check out the 'injector stuck nozzle vid'

Lots of other useful info if you hit the 'parent directory' to go back

I would like to take the credit but someone else put them up, useful though.

How did you get on in your search for plugs?
