So I'm really thinking of buying a Gasser and losing the W123

because its becoming tooo much work. $7k invested and I still can't drive it!

http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/1069427442.html
this is idea number one

there is also a
'95 "4 door ""350"" with 100K" about 5 minutes from my hosue
i'm going to call on it. it sounds like a W140 diesel?
its $5800

For that W124...I have the corner light from an 87 300D.....

As for $5800 "350"...tack on another $3,500-$15,000 for eventual engine replacement and AC evaporator core replacement.....

How have you spent 7k on a W123 and its not drivable? What all does/has it needed so far? You could have bought two nice W124's for that much $$

as for the 240D

Purchase price of $2k
i was able to drive it almost 6 months with no repairs

random things like tires, brakes (calipers, rotors, pads on 3 thus far, one still needs to be done) the new slave cylinder that was installed pre purchase, FAILED. so i had to go thru that. oh oh oh. and new floor pans because my seat fell thru
that was a nice bout of $$$

random trips to the mechanic trying to keep the suspension and "frame" together

the snowbelt got the best of the car, so i really need to sell it, part it out, or find a nice W123

i'm going to try and look @ the W124 today or tomorrow. hopefully nobody snags it

A car with the suspension and floor falling apart isn't safe to drive anymore....it should be parted out if its that bad.

Lets see for seven thousand dollars you could:

Fly to Atlanta.
By a benz
Stay in the Ritz
Go to the Cheetah
Bring home some Cheetahs
Rock out with your cock out
Drive home

And still probably have $1000 left.

I know, its horrible. game is. find a car, part out 240D

'94 E320 is sold.

I'm going to look @ the S350 tomorrow just for shats and giggles.
$5800 is way more than i want to spend on anything of the sorts right now, esp with the purchase of the E300 Diesel

I don't normally advocate the destruction of W123's or any other cool car, but if the freaking seat fell through, it's time to part/junk it and find another one.

I'm glad cars don't rust where I live. Except my 240D, but it had years in Iowa to get the corrosion party started

ok, step into my shoes, early morning class, car is in garage, but still so cold you need the block heater.
unplug it from the timer, stuff the cord, pull door handle, sit on oh so springy W123 seat, butt finally hits where it stops after springage, but the seat keeps going

Matthias, you spend your $$$$$ about as poorly as anybody here on the forum. And now you want to buy a rod-bender???
You paid double what you should have for that E300, and between that and your $$$$ outlay on the 240 you apparently still haven't learned.
You said something about your dad joining the forum; he needs to be guiding you through some more intelligent spending of your $$$$......

And in case you didn't know:

Blondie cannot still be at the Clairmont Lounge. She almost needed a cane for her routine when I was there 10 years ago

lol.
no one said I'm buying a rod bender.
i just want to drive one, and hertz doesn't have them

the 240D was the family's first "old" benz, we honestly had NO idea.
lol
&& my father won't let me do any work myself, at all.
think about indies charging $48-90 an hour included in that 7k
INSANE.

as for the floor boards, i got them from some guy who makes them in michigan.
it was $99 per half (each side front to back 1 piece)
and 100 to ship.

plus all the labor time for my indie to do so.

Any seller that says "easy fix" really means, "I found a lot of problems and I don't have enough money to fix it".

If it was an easy fix they would have fixed it so the sale value would be higher.
