Forgot to install brake shims
I just put a new rotor, caliper, brake line, and pads on my driver rear wheel (1983 300TD). After I was done, I notice that I forgot to install the shims that come with the pads. The brakes work great, what am I risking by not installing the shims?
Thanks.

Thanks, I will open them back up if a squeal develops.

I think if a squeal develops it may be too late. The pads will have bedded in at a slightly different angle than they would have if the shims were in place. It might take a long time for the pads to re-wear with the shims installed.

Raybestos sold under Carquest name. Carquest was the only place that had calipers in stock.
