Rear sunroof seal question
I have the sunroof out on a w123 300d and am trying to replace the rear seal. I have removed the old seal. I started out with a seal bought directly from Mercedes. It was very soft and would not stay in the groove especially on the corners. I bought a Euro seal which is harder and I have worked it into the grooves but the seal seams to be to long on the corners. Both seals were like this. They both seem the right length when not installed and placed above the groove but when you install it becomes to long. Any secrets to this? Do I have to trim it and if so how much?

Been there done that
I just did this job last week. I did the same thing you did. The problem is that you are starting at 'one end' and working the seal in 'one' direction. When you get to the other end you have massaged the seal too much so it is actually stretched out.
You need to install the ends first and then work your way towards the center on from each side a little bit at a time. Try to work the seal more "downwards" rather than "sideways". Be sure to clean the groove in the sunroof channel with soap, water and a toothbrush. Don't forget to get any glue or crud out of the groove in the corners or it will never go in. Use a solution of dish soap and water liberally while working with the seal. When you are finished, put it out in the sun so all the water can evaporate off. Then seal the flaps on the end with some glue so they don't get ripped back when the sunroof "flips up" when closing.

Thanks! Worked like a charm. What kind of glue did you use?

Glad it worked!
I used that Permatex Clear RTV. Just on those little flat flaps at the very end. It doesn't take much. You don't want to goop it on there. Just enough to secure the flaps. I used tape to hold it in place till it was dry. It did not take long out in the sun.
