300 TDT exhaust

Hi, I have a 300 TDT (87) and I have replaced all of the exhaust except for the piece of pipe that comes from the manifold down. It has what looks like a stainless flex pipe and a pipe on the end that bolts to the manifold over a "donut" and then a piece of exhaust on the other end that goes to the first muffler. Has anyone ever found a place that makes a replacement for this piece? I think the original is quite long but 24-30" would be long enough to hook into it. I am afraid to ask MB what a replacement would be.

i have a custom made front pipe on my '87 wagon and it is holding up very well, but at some point in the summer i am going to replace my entire exhaust front to back so i have been looking into this too. i priced the front pipe at the dealer and it is over 1000.00 canadian.

this seller has it on ebay. i have no idea how the quality would be on this pipe.

1000 huh? Seems reasonable for 5 feet of pipe. Of course I am being sarcastic. I think a muffler shop could make this quite reasonable, I was hoping to find someone that had already done so or an aftermarket place. Problem with the ebay pipe will be the shipping.

If you have the old one for a pattern, any good shop with a pipe bender can duplicate it. I've had them done up to 6" 304 stainless from drawings or old pipes, never had a problem. Usually much cheaper than ordering OE also.

There are better flex-pipes also, the ones with the stainless braid are IMO superior.

i don't know, that pipe is cheap. i'd guess you could have it at your door for about 300 $CAD. you'll be hard pressed to have that pipe custom made and installed for under 300 bucks unless your know the guy who owns the shop...

the pipe on my car was made to replace the centre resonator also, so it is one piece that goes from the turbo to near the rear axle. the shop who made it did a good job. the flex sections are readily available since they're used on lots of cars. i think i have the bill from that piece (from the PO) and it was about 400 installed.

The key to reasonable pricing is to have the pipe off of the car, and in good enough shape to duplicate.
