Arizona Emissions test

I am moving from Detroit, MI to Mesa, Az. I just read that they have emissions testing in order to get plates. I have a 1983 300D and a 1989 560SL. I am concerned about passing. Does anyone have any information or experience with this? Thanks!

20% smoke opacity test for the diesel. It will need to be in really poor condition to have any chance of failing.

The diesel is more than 25years old, it does not even have to test. AZ is one of the easiest state for inspections (although ur moving to Maricopa county rules may differ compared to Pima).
I would actually be more concerned by the 560SEL, that one may fail if you have not keep up with pesky vacuum emission control.

I live in Phoenix, AZ. You will have to get your 300d tested. I believe the rule in Arizona is that only cars older than 1967 regardless if its a diesel or not don't have to be tested. Forced is right about the 20% opacity test. It is fairly easy to pass. The first time I tested my 1984 euro 240d, I got a 4% reading. The next time I ran diesel purge through my system about two days before the test and then had 0%.
