white smoke on start up 1985 300D

Hi all have a new problem with my 1985 300D a whiteish smoke on start up its doesn't smell like antifreeze not sweet at all. Smells really like unburnt diesel but its white. There is a lot for the first minute and then runs fine. I checked the antifreeze and its fine and the motor oil looks good and the coolant level stays very constant. So I don't think its a blown headgasket. I am leaning towards bad valve stem seals the car seems to lose oil and I can't find any leaks. Any ideas would be helpful. THanks and how worried should I be? I am very broke right now. So any ideas on an easy fix would be great.

is it totally white, or more of a gray color? most likely, it's the result of unburned fuel exiting the motor... look into injectors.

clogged injectors probally... How does your coolant look? Is it free of contaminants? Does the level look low? If not that would probally rule out a head gasket failure.

Agree with both the above. Smoke from valve guides/stem seals would be a little blueish in color, and not smell so much like diesel.

How are your glow plugs? White smoke on startup is unburnt diesel most likely.

No its white and its smells like diesel. The coolant is fine I have been keeping a close eye on it for a while now. And right now the car doesn't seem to be leaking any oil. So okay injectors it is thanks guys was getting worried

Confirm that your glowplugs are working first, then suspect injectors. That way you replace things in order of cost.

No glowplugs work fine had a 10 round fight with them a few weeks ago. Will contact bgkast for some rebuilt injectors in a few weeks until then I just don't drive it.

It is possible to have one bad glow plug and not have the glow plug light act up. Even though you have recently changed all of the glow plugs, check them anyway, they are easier and less expensive to change than injectors.
