240D 5 or 4 Speeds?

Did MB produce 240D with both 4 and 5 speed transmissions?

There are MANY four speed 240D's. I expect that the vast majority of them were manual transmission cars.

I have heard of five speed 240D's, but I have never seen one with my own eyes. Very rare indeed, and there were never any US models with the five speed.

IN Europe both 4 & 5 speeds were avail. BUT as you know only 4 speed 240D's in the US.
