300D Transmission Leak Part 2

So there is a transmission fluid leak coming from my 1984 300D. I have been under there and checked it out and I have determined that the leak is coming from the top of the transmission. I was wondering if there is a seal or some type of breather up there. Does anyone have any idea of what it might be? I think it could be the breather. Has anyone had this problem before.

Thanks
Dan

I think the only thing on top of the transmission that can leak is the filler tube seal (dipstick).

But someone with more 722 transmission experience will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I also have a small transmission fluid leak. It seems to leak only when the weather is cold. When it warms up, it doesn't leak. This leads me to believe it is the front seal. Am I wrong?

Maybe you should try changing the gasket on the transmission oil pan. That pan is aluminum it probably shrinks and expands with changes in extreme temperature. If the gasket is old it would leak when its cold and when the transmission heats up the pan could be expanding and the leak would then stop. If you haven't changed the gasket in a while it would be worth investing 10 bucks on a new one. Who knows it just might stop your leak.

The 722 transmission has a one piece cast alum. case. There are no factory openings on the top and the onle way for fluid to get there is to be flung or dripped from some where else.
