Low on coolant - which one do I add...

Just discovered that the car is really low on coolant (had a leak in the hose that I've just tightented). There is barely any coolant left in the expansion tank... AND - to fluid is green... I know some of you will probably jump on that, but at this point I'am looking for advice on what to add to top up the reservoir to proper level.

I've checked the receipts I got from the PO, and it looks like he had the radiator serviced back in 2001. It says on it that 1.5 gallons were added but does not say what type... so help me plz understand what to buy and where.

Thx

Is it going to get really cold in your area any more this year? Just top it up with distilled water until you can flush it out for the proper mercedes coolant.

I do not think types ( colors ) of coolant are supposed to be mixed...
probably best to add just water now and plan on flushing and putting in the Zerex G-05 when you can. I am about to do this to my 240d so I happened to read the FSM concerning this today...

My local NAPA carries this stuff: $16.33 per gallon - times 4 gallons... ouch.

Still cheaper than replacing the aluminum in the radiator and water pump...

I would just fill with distilled water until you can do a proper flush. Search for "Citric Acid Flush" for instructions on how to switch from green to G-05 coolant. It is pretty involved.

So what happens if there is a small amount of the other color in the system.

When I put my newly rebuilt engine in the SDL, I forgot about the heater core, which still had a bit of green in it.
