Stewart, the humor is in the erroneous listings. They are from the last few days here in Orlando.

I mean seriously, does this mean that combination of letters and numbers on the trunk lid goes without meaning?

I will admit, that 380 GL thing had me going for about .5 seconds (till the page loaded) I thought maybe I had stumbled onto something.. my initial thought was a G wagon conversion or something else mindless.

If the 560SEL has the original motor in it....then I think he hit a 4 instead of a 1 on the 48MPG figure. 18 would even be pushing it, I believe.

That's easy to do though on a numeric keypad.

I think this made my day. I feel bad when they head out for a test drive and stick diesel in that tank! Well...no I really don't feel bad, this guy shouldn't have the privilege of driving that car anyway

Being an 83, a few years before there was such a thing as a 560SEL.. I'm betting it's a 300SD that got hit in the ass and a junkyard trunk lid was fitted. Or somebody got clever with the badges.

The wheels insist it's a Gen1 W126, which says the 83 is probably right, and from the pic it looks like a short wheel base, so not an seL.

That's my guess.

48 mpg.... Maybe 28 with a tailwind down a hill. A 560 might get 18 under the same conditions. I got 18 once with my 560SEL.

I walked by an SL 600 (r129) at the pick n pull this week. Even had a custom two-tone leather interior, white and burgundy. Car was on stilts so it sort of looked odd anyway. Once I saw the "600" badge I thought, "let's see what's left of the engine". But before I could do so, noticed that the dash and other interior bits were very un-german. The steering wheel gave it away for sure.

What it was, a good ol fashion K-car a la Chrysler LeBaron Convertible with SL front and rear clip. The engine bay contained a chrysler V6 of its vintage. Amazing how the body panels fit perfectly.

I couldn't help to think that for the money the poor guy spent making it look like an SL, he probably could have just bought one used...

Like Ive always said, if you really think the ads are that bad, or that these people are that dumb. Call them on it. Send them an email stating "For your info, that 560sel is not a diesel, and is not capable in any form, of 48mpg." S-class Einspritzung Lang. No where does that denote a diesel. as for the GL, tell the guy that if he had simply took a gander at the rear of this car, it would give him all of the model info he needed on the trunk lid. The 280CE, tell the guy "C" would mean that it has only 2 doors. Hell, I may just take the initiative to do all of this myself.

That would be the way to go, take a 560 SEL body and marry it to the SD drivetrain. Easier to find the reclining rear seat option, for sure. Not sure what other options the 560 SEL got that the 300 SDL didn't get, or at least what people paid for.

Aw, heck, guys....

I'm still lookin for a 6 cylinder diesel 1971-1989 series SL.
Perhaps in green with blazing red interior. Or red with a black forrest green interior would be good. Also want the little deer warning horns/whistles attached where the driving lights go. And with the euro bumpers.

Regards
